About the Event
In partnership with OARS and Thoreau Alliance, join us for a “Talk and Walk” focused on wetlands, featuring a presentation by wetlands scientist and OARS’ Interim Executive Director, Ingeborg Hegemann, on the ecology, functions, and importance of these vital ecosystems. Then head outdoors to a nearby wetland habitat at the Land Trust’s Elm Brook property with Ingeborg and the Land Trust’s Manager of Land Stewardship, Alexi Dart-Padover, and see these concepts come to life through on-the-ground exploration of a living wetland.
About the Speaker
Ingeborg Hegemann is the Interim Executive Director of OARS, bringing decades of experience in environmental science, wetlands assessment, regulatory permitting, and climate adaptation. She previously served as Vice President and Principal of the Ecological Sciences Group at BSC, leading projects on wetlands science, environmental impact analysis, and climate resilience. Ingeborg is active in local conservation, serving on the Stow Conservation Commission and Board of Selectmen, and has held leadership roles with regional organizations including the Mystic River Watershed Association.
